Storing lyophilized peptides: useful evidence and records

A physical form does not define a shelf life

“Lyophilized” describes the material’s presentation. On its own, it does not establish an expiry date or a shelf life that applies to every peptide. Storage information must remain connected to a reference and a material state.

Sigma-Aldrich’s technical guides distinguish lyophilized peptides from peptides in solution. They identify moisture, light and air exposure as relevant factors. Their stability guidance also highlights the importance of composition and sequence.

These general references are not stability tests on a Velia Labs batch. They do not replace its documentation or your laboratory’s validated procedures.

Questions to ask before receipt

This is a documentation checklist, not a preparation protocol:

1. Does the instruction concern the delivered material or a different experimental preparation?
2. Which document provides the applicable conditions, and what is its version?
3. Is a duration or date documented for this reference?
4. Are transport and storage conditions distinguished?
5. Who handles a receipt anomaly or temperature excursion?

When a duration is unavailable, record it as undocumented. Do not infer a date from general advice about a different peptide.

Keep a material history

An internal register can connect the reference and batch with the receipt date, supplied instructions, storage location and observed anomalies. Its fields and acceptance decisions belong to your institution’s quality system.

An observation of appearance remains an observation; it does not replace analysis. A COA issued on a particular date is not automatically a study establishing stability under all subsequent conditions. Our certificate of analysis guide helps distinguish reported information from missing evidence.

When information is insufficient
